Yesterday I took my son to the X games for the first time. Neither of us has ever been. We both wanted to see the Rally event in person so we made the trip out.
To my son the whole thing was worth it but I wasn’t so sure. First, the tickets were sold out quick and the brokers jacked the remaining ones up from $10 to $70. I didn’t know there were limited seats etc. I always see people walking around. I ended up paying 7 times the amount just to get in! Once in, my son wanted to sit down but didn’t understand that I would have to pay $50 each more just for that honor.
So now were just standing in the dead heat with the rest of the peasants while the rich kids in the shaded bleachers looked on.
Once the rally event started we soon realized that we were positioned right behind a blind spot on the course. We could only see one car, one time per race and that was for a total of 3-5 seconds depending on the skill of the driver. So naturally like any kid would ask, I hoisted him on my shoulders because the grown adults wouldn’t let the kids stand up front.
So my opinion of this whole experience is, the races were good just short and invisible. Much better to just watch at home, BUT if you love your 8 year old kid then there’s nothing like sitting through hell to give them heaven.
Peep this Interview about “Nate In ‘08” w/ Dj Sorce1 from Sept 2008: http://smokingsection.uproxx.com/TSS/2008/09/as-told-to-dj-steve1nders-nate-in-08-mix
Here is my Ode to Nate the Great.Damn I miss hearing Nate on new music. I did miss a few key joints like his St. Ides commercial, but think I captured Nate’s essence w/ this Mix. Enjoy.

I just asked 5 people who their favorite basketball player is and 3 said MJ. Although there’s nothing wrong with that, I wonder if they are being lazy and choosing MJ to be safe or is he REALLY their favorite. With Mike it’s a bit different. He’s EVERYONE’S favorite by default. You can always avoid a debate by saying he’s your top pick. So from now on when someone asks that question you dont’ have to say Mike. The only exceptions are you were a Chicago resident BEFORE Mike came to Chi town or you follow basketball closely and can back up you case with facts. Sorry if I sound sour, I’m not. It’s just annoying when I know what your answer will be before you say it.
I’m a big supporter of up and coming rappers, etc., but one thing I can’t deal with is when they say they’re the next thing to pop off or they’re “Hot!”. Shouldn’t we be the judge of that?
